The national electric utility of Senegal, Senelec, has signed a 20-year CCA with Infinity Power for a battery energy storage project.
The global transition toward renewable energy demands reliable energy storage. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have emerged as a core technology in this shift. These systems help balance energy supply and demand, improve grid stability, and support decarbonization.
The BESS is to be built at the Tobène substation in Thies, Senegal. It will be operated by Infinity Power’s 158.7 MW wind farm in Senegal, Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye (PETN)
As shown in Fig. 3, the BESS consists of 50 containers, each of which is a sub unit of 1 MW/2 MWh. Each 1 MW/2 MWh energy storage container includes two sets of 500 kW PCS, 2 MWh battery and corresponding battery management system.
