The BESS will rise within the compound of EAUC, a subsidiary of Therma Power Inc. under AboitizPower, which operates a 50-MW bunker oil-fired plant inside the Mactan Export Processing Zone I in Lapu-Lapu City.
Targeted for commissioning by the first half of 2026, the project will be one of the first large-scale energy storage systems in Central Visayas. It is expected to help improve the reliability of the power supply amid rising demand from industries, businesses, and new locators within the economic zone.
The hybrid BESS forms part of Aboitiz Power’s broader transition strategy to support the Philippines’ renewable energy roadmap. Congressman Chan’s policy support is expected to accelerate investments in energy infrastructure across Central Visayas.
