Earlier this year, Ports of Stockholm, in collaboration with many other ports and stakeholders, received approval to apply for EU funding for three sustainability initiatives. The Swedish Innovation Agency Vinnova funded the project within the System Demonstrator Sustainable Port program, which is led by the University of Skövde in collaboration with Stella Futura and Ilmatar.
Staffan Forsell, Chief Strategy and Development Officer at Ports of Stockholm, commented: “We are working strategically to meet EU regulations that require an onshore connection for ships by 2030. This places high demands on the electricity grid, especially in Port of Kapellskär where the current capacity is limited.
