Tesla has officially signed a ¥4 billion (C$764/US$557 million) deal to build its first grid-scale battery energy storage station in China, leveraging its Megapack technology.
Up to 10,000 Megapack units are scheduled to be produced here annually. As Tesla''s first energy storage gigafactory outside the United States, the new Lin-gang plant only took nine months from groundbreaking, which took place in May 2024, to official operation.
The energy storage factory covers an area of approximately 200,000 square meters, which is equivalent to the size of 30 standard soccer fields. It initially plans to produce 10,000 Megapack units a year, with a storage capacity of nearly 40 GWh.
Headquartered in Shanghai with 50,000㎡+ production bases across Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangzhou, the company employs 1,000+ professionals, including 20+ engineers driving energy storage technology.
